Kismet Calling (2024)

Directed by Jude Bourne, this short film is an intense psychological thriller dealing with themes of fate and inevitability. A man enters a darkened house at night, and encounters inexplicable events which lead to devastating consequences.

The function of the music was primarily to enhance the unsettling atmosphere of the environment, becoming increasingly disquieting as the events unfold. In order to achieve this, the brief favoured an experimental approach, combining electronics and unusual sound sources with elements of traditional composition and thematic scoring. A variety of interesting sounds were recorded and manipulated, including a boiling kettle, falling rocks and plastic bottle hits. Oliver worked closely with the sound designer Cai Edwards to achieve a seamless blend between music and sound.
